The South Hams is a glorious part of Devon and how fortunate we are to be located here! At Kaleidoscope we have a fantastic team who support adults with learning difficulties to live rich independent lives. We support around 48 people and employ almost 100.
We are a small independent local Charity based in the delightful market town of Kingsbridge. As a small organisation everyone knows each other and we want to keep it that way.
The organisation as it is today is fairly new, about fifteen years old, but it grew out of what was originally a local parent organisation called South Hams Mencap. In early 2000 as people were moving into the community, South Hams Mencap became two distinct and legally independent organisations, know as Kaleidoscope and The Gordon Carling Foundation. Kaleidoscope, provides the support and The Gordon Carling Foundation is a housing provider used by many of our tenants.
Most people have homes in and around Kingsbridge. We have a 24 hour office at Ropewalk where there are a number of flats and apartments, other people have chosen to live scattered around in the town and outlying villages, alone, with their friends or family, or with partners husbands and wives.
Community is important to us. The new Creativity Hub at 115, is the perfect place to meet up with friends and make yourself comfortable over a cuppa. The premises are accessible, with a ramp, and a lift to the first floor. You can help to complete the jigsaws, do a bit of soothing colouring, read a book or a newspaper or just watch the world go by. All we ask is a donation in the box. You are welcome to stay for as long as you like. Also at our new premises we have more offices, in addition to the wonderful facilities for courses, meetings and parties, which you may wish to join in with, and if you are a local group looking for a venue or an individual looking for a place to run a course, we may be just what you are looking for.
We have a number of courses and events planned and presently running, some at 115 and some in other venues, which you may like to sign up for.
‘Team 115’ help on reception and our offices are on the first floor which has lift access, so if it’s support or advice you are seeking, there will always be a friendly face and a listening ear. If you want to join the team as a volunteer or have an idea about a course which you would like to run or to access, we want to hear from you.
"We heard this in a radio 4 programme in July 2015 and simply couldn’t have said it better ourselves!"
We are towards the top of Fore Street close to the car park and Museum.
